Limericks

A limerick is a form of poetry that consists of five lines with a rhyme scheme of AABBA. The meter is almost always anapest - unstressed (U) unstressed (U) stressed (/) - to lend the poem a singsongy quality. The content of a limerick is usually humorous, bawdy, or nonsensical in nature.

Perhaps the first real limerick that I've created. Short, self-aware, biting, wry humor - this is the essence of the limerick's unique style.

What is a limerick?

This was one of the first poems I wrote. In retrospect, ironically, this isn't exactly a limerick as the third and fourth lines have the same metrical feet as the others. Nonetheless, it sums up the idea of a limerick, which is most important.
