With Vers Libre, there are no rules! No meter, no rhyme scheme, no set form- the possibilities for this form of poetry are endless. Through this form, the poet sculpts his/her poem however he/she desires. Without the typical poetic constraints that may result in artificiality, vers libre allows greater freedom for the poet's diction and places a higher significance on the chosen words - you know the poet didn't just choose that word because it was the only word that rhymed with orange.
