Poetry doesn't have to be reserved to the pretentious. Check out the first poem that I ever created attached below. Boy! was that a mess - nevertheless, there's the inklings of a poet hidden behind all that sentimentality.
Attached is an analysis of the first poem I ever composed. It should provide an idea of how I go about writing my poems and, hopefully, you will take note that poets aren't born, they're made. All it takes it to just write! It doesn't have to be perfect, but what you create will be your own. One by one, your poems will improve. Keep writing my sonneteers.
